Do not mistake this park for the main Namaqua National Park, which is a bit inland from this coastal park.
Situated 43km from Groen river gate. There are 6 campsites with Enviro-loo, no ablutions, no water and no electricity. A 2x4 with high ground clearance vehicle from Hondeklip Bay road gate is required. The camp has large open areas and is particularly suited to groups. Campers should be self sufficient in terms of food, water and wood before entering the park.
The Groenrivier office is the SanParks office for the southern section of Namaqua National Park (Namaqua Coast National Park). Apart from a spot close to this office, there is no cell signal in the park.
Wood, ice and drinking water are for sale at the office.
It may be better to phone the park directly for accommodation. Or alternatively use the email contact details we provide. You will have to register on SANParks website, and then make online reservations and pay in minutes. A Wild Card will get you free entry if you have one, but you would still need to pay camping fees. Two vehicles are allowed per site, extra vehicles will need are charged for per night.

ROADS INFO:
The areas on the Tracks4africa maps that show roads as sandy are indeed VERY sandy. If you don't deflate your tyres you may get stuck.
Sanparks has put up signposts and recommendations about tyre pressure at these sandy patches now. A 4x4 is required for very sandy areas, but there are alternative gravel roads as by-passes. A 4x2 will do as long as the sandy areas are avoided. Do not attempt the coastal area with a sedan car, as the tracks are just a little too corrugated for a small vehicle. (Jan-2015).
WEATHER:
Beware of weather extremes hereā¦.south easters blow, and there has been reports of a north-westerly storm during December 2011 with night time temperatures of less than 5 degrees. A week later it was sunshine, warm and basically no wind.
Camping site No. 5 is closest to the sea.
“Wonderful camp site. There is a seal colony nearby. Just be carefull of the thick sand when getting close to the seal colony. We were able to pass through the sand with a high clearance 2x4 by driving with momentum” - Jason Riley, 2024/02/06
“Boulderbay-or Boulderbaai as the signpost says-has 5 sites and 2 eco-toilets. Each site has a stone wall shelter, to protect one from the prevailing south-westerly winds, and a braai pit. There are absolutely no other facilities, bring own shower, water etc. This is really unspoilt nature camping right on the beach. No 5 is closest to the sea.” - Mietsie Visser, 2015/12/22
