The Garden Route stretches all along the coastline from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to Storms River in the Eastern Cape. This is one of the most scenic areas in the world and has a well-developed tourist infrastructure. The bigger towns of George and Knysna has a lot to offer, but make sure you also explore the stunning smaller villages like Victoria Bay and Noetzie. Plettenberg Bay is the jewel of The Garden Route and offers you miles of sweeping, unspoilt golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea. The Garden Route National Park is a mosaic of ecosystems that encompasses Wilderness, the Knysna Lake and Tsitsikamma. The landscape varies from rocky seashores to indigenous forests and enchanting mountains. The Otter Trail which follows the spectacular coastline from Storms River Mouth to Nature's Valley is undoubtedly South Africa's best known and most popular hiking trail. Nestled in the great forests lying at the feet of the fabled Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma Mountains is the quaint hamlet of Storms River. Although the town and surroundings are peaceful, it is synonymous with adventure. If you're an adrenaline junkie, you can do the world's highest bungee jump (216m) at the Bloukrans River Bridge or a tree canopy tour. Many of the platforms are built around giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees that are up to 700 years old! Standing within the crown of these giants and looking down at the lush forest floor thirty metres below is an experience of a lifetime.
