Minwater is a private nature reserve in the foothills of the Gamka Mountains, between the Swartberg and Outeniqua ranges in the Little Karoo. Outdoor enthusiasts love the stark beauty and driving challenges of this compelling part of the world. The four trails range from easy to exhilarating. Built on existing roads, some of which are hundreds of years old, these trails traverse stark, mountainous terrain across rocky ridges, steep ascents and deep ravines with escape routes so novices and those in less serious 4x4s can avoid the tricky sections. Guides are available Rooiberg is a short, relatively straight-forward trail up and down the mountain. Two hours and 7 km long, it's relatively steep in places. Steenbokrant is a short 4.5-km, 1-hour, moderately difficult circular trail across several dry watercourses. Good ground clearance and low-range are recommended. Two trails are used for the ascent and descent of the Sandberg Mountain. The Kloof, the first alternative, is graded 4-5, while the second has a 4 grading, hugging a precipitous mountainside while descending into a deep ravine. As for accommodation there are three shady bush camps with running water. And next to the Moeras River is another campsite that is accessible to caravans. Its basic camping with some firewood provided. Non-flushing toilets, hot showers. Activities includes visiting ostrich farms, Cango Caves, neighbouring Gamka Mountain Nature Reserve and other 4x4 trails in the Little Karoo.(Information supplied by DriveOut Magazine).
