4WD-Trail Tierkloof 4WD-Trail

ID: w136291 View large map

Located in South Africa :: Western Cape (Winelands)  :: Worcester
Category: Activity :: 4WD-Trail

You'd be correct in expecting a steep rocky ascent and descent at Tierkloof, but the surprise sting in the tail is a soft sand challenge that's loads of fun for all experience levels. Although the trail covers only 12km, there is plenty to keep off-road adventurers amused, starting with a rocky climb that will be a sweaty-palmed, white-knuckled experience for rookies and a challenge for seasoned campaigners. The fun begins almost immediately after you turn off the main road, with a 5km mountain ascent littered with huge boulders and a gap between looming rocks where marshalling is recommended. Your reward on reaching the Bloukop view site is a magnificent panorama over Brandvlei Dam towards Worcester. Klipspringers, baboons and black eagles were spotted, with leopard tracks providing evidence of nocturnal hunts. Taking another route down the mountain will confront you with a deep dive into a normally dry riverbed, some sandy sections and finally Tierkloof's sting in the tail, a daunting but safe climb in deep, soft sand that is impossible on normal road pressures. Only after deflating tyres to one bar did Drive Outs' Prado manage the feat. There is basic camping with ablution facilities for accommodation and Each site has its own power point, bin and braai. Activities to engage in includes swimming and canoeing at Brandvlei Dam, Stettyn 4x4 Trail, Klipbokkop 4x4 Trail. (Information supplied by DriveOut Magazine).
