Kleinzee, used to be a small De Beers diamond mining town on the west coast of the Northern Cape province of South Africa, The town was proclaimed on the 6 August 2011 and all property was sold to private owners. Buffels River flows through Kleinzee approximately every ten years, but most of the time it is just a dry river bed. The town boasts with a golf course, squash courts, and other recreation. All the roads to Kleinzee is currently dirt Roads. Kleinzee has a fully stocked groceries and liquor store.

Directions

10 km from Port Nolloth you will find a dirt Road to Kleinzee. From Springbok once you go thru Spektakel pass you have 2 options 1) R355 a 65km dirt Road not always in a good condition. 2) turn left towards Buffels River and Kommagas no difference in distance keep on the tar Road after Kommagas a dirt Road of only 40km and in a better conditions most of the time. From Garies to Koiingnaas dirt Road from Koiingnaas to Kleinzee tar Road.

Travelling Information

ATM & CASH:
You can withdraw cash at the liquor store and post office. There is an ATM inside the clubhouse of the golf course. (Nov-2015).

​CELL NETWORK:
The main cell network is Vodacom. MTN, Cell C.

EMERGENCY:
There is an extra police number +27(0)27 877 0120. There is a clinic in the town operating certain days of the week their standby number is +27(0)73 770 4399.

SHOPS & SERVICES:
Post Office.

TO HONDEKLIP BAY:
No permit required, the tar road is now open to the public. There are no longer any security check points on either side of Kleinzee.

There are tracks leading off this main tar road towards the sea and which generally have gates on them, which you are not allowed to enter. The sand track that hugs the coast from Kleinsee to Hondeklip Bay, passes through a section that has been declared a nature reserve, and requires "permission". There are some new mining concessions along the coastal route and access requirements can change at any time. (You can try to contact the Strandveld Conservation Club for permission to enter: +27(0)27 877 0028 / +27(0)76 642 0868).

From Kleinsee there is a very badly corrugated road connecting with the R382 from Springbok to Port Nolloth – this road is not recommended for sedans. (2018).
