Atlantis is a small town in the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality in the Western Cape. It is located about 40 km north of the Cape Town Central Business District. The residents in Atlantis is about 67,491 in 2011. Some of the major challenges of the area is unemployment, lack of housing and crime. It was first established by the apartheid government in the 1970's as the industrial centre and a community for Cape Town's Coloured population.
