Knysna is a beautiful town on the Garden Route, situated on the south coast of South Africa. The name Knysna is probably derived from a Khoikhoi word meaning 'ferns' or ''place of wood''. Well-known for its oysters, the Knysna 'lagoon' - which is in fact an estuary - is situated between the two Knysna Heads, and here the endangered Knysna seahorse can be found. The Knysna Forest is host to many elephant legends, and walking hikes can be done in safety.

“'Knysna is a town on the Knysna Lagoon, at the mouth of the Knysna River, 68 km east of George on the Garden Route'.It was established in 1882 by the amalgamation of two hamlets, Melville, founded in 1825, and Newhaven, founded in 1846.
