Pampierstad served two purposes, one was to house people forcibly removed and to create a pool of labour to serve South African industry and farms. It was established in the in the late 1960s in the former homeland of Bophuthatswana. Located 31 km north-west of Jan Kempdorp and 12km west of Hartswater. It was named after the son of a local Chief, Chief Motlaadile, Lekwalo Pampiri who was also known as Pampier.
