Travelling Information

In the rainy season the cotton soil in the park becomes impassable. This means that you will have to leave your vehicle on the western side and stay in either Mvuu Lodge or tent camp. They do however guard the vehicles. If you do try and reach the lodge campsite and get stuck, Mvuu lodge will assist you at a fee, if you can reach them via phone. The rainy season is December to April. (Jan-13).

“There is only one place to camp in Liwonde Park, at Mvuu Camp. All other camps have only lodging. In the rainy season the cotton soil becomes impassable, so travelling to the lodge is only possible by boat from the western side of the Shire River(Ulongwe Rd). This means that you will have to leave your vehicle on the western side and stay in either Mvuu Lodge or tentcamp. They do however guard the vehicles. If you do try and reach the lodge campsite and get stuck, Mvuu lodge will assist you at a fee, if you can reach them via phone. The rainy season is December to April.” - Mietsie Visser, 2013/01/16
