This is the border between Mozambique and South Africa. Situated within Maputo province in Mozambique is considered one of the best border post between the two countries. On the South African side there is the Kosi Bay border post.
Some travelers need a valid passport with visas when entering Mozambique for approx USD50/ZAR950, however South African Passport holders do not need a visa, other countries passport holders need to contact the Country embassies to inquire about their visa requirements.
A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for travelling from the border to the nearby resort as the roads are still underdeveloped and public transport is scarce but there is a car lock up area on the South African border where the travelers who do not have 4x4 vehicles can park their vehicles under 24hrs guard for a small fee per day.
All visitors travelling with vehicles need to have vehicle registration documents at hand, a driver's licence, a compulsory third party insurance certificate for approx ZAR220, a temporary import permit for vehicle is obtained at the border. If towing anything like quad bikes, trailers or caravan a blue and yellow triangle at the front of the vehicle and at the back of the towed item and cost around R80. For a vehicle more than 6m, a front and rear reflector are needed and a reflective jacket for all drivers.
For more information travelers can contact the Ponta Do Oura Police Station in Mozambique for general inquiries about the border post, they will gladly assist.
