The town was formerly called ' Selukwe.' Situated within the Midlands province in Zimbabwe. The town is in a rural setting with villages and chiefs as heads. Agriculture is the main source of income in the area. The town grew as a result of the mine as it stretches on the Great Dyke, with mining of Gold and Chrome. In 2012 the population stood at close to 17 000 people. For more information visitors are welcome to contact the Shurungwi Town Council who are also planning and implementing various projects to improve the living conditions of the people in and around the town. The town also have a railway network.
