The campsites at the ruins are basic, large, neat and adequate. Campsite is located on a large grassy terrain with trees next to Great Zimbabwe excavation and view on rocks, it offers shade, BBQ area and picnic table. Renovations were being done in September 2013. The name for the ruins is derived from a Shona word meaning house built of stones (Dzimbadzemahwe). The 'Great Zimbabwe Ruins' is that of a ruined city on the south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe, near Lake Mutirikwe and the town of Masvingo. It served as a royal place for the Zimbabwean Monarchy such as the Chief and the Number One wife.

“We camped here in September 2013. The campsite is large and neat and renovations were being done. The ablution was old but clean with hot water and power points available.
The Ruins are exquisite, especially early morning. The place has a mystical, ancient feel to it. The museum is a highlight.” -

“This campsite is well maintained with the minimum funds, with armed guard at night. When you visit the ruins do pay for a guide otherwise you will never here all the facts(or stories) about the ruins. Definitely worth a visit.” -
