The small village of Sepopa (also spelled Sepupa) is located on the western bank of the Okavango Delta, about halfway between Shakawe and Gumare. This is about as close as you can get to the delta by car! Any of the lodges/camps in the area offer a worthwhile stop between Mohembo Border Post and Maun.
Traveller DescriptionThe focus in the Okavango Panhandle is on birding and fishing. Keen birders can expect to see specials such as African Skimmers and Red-winged Pratincoles, while fishermen can try their hand at bream or tiger fishing.
During the annual Barbel Run, fishermen stream to the better known Shakawe and Gumare villages. If you prefer less hustle and bustle, Sepopa is the ideal place to spend a few days.

ROAD INFO:
Seronga: If you’re travelling to Seronga and don’t want to drive the badly-potholed tar road up to Shakawe, via the Mohembo Ferry, and down to Seronga on a dirt road, there’s a local ferry which runs across the Okavango River, between Sepopa and Seronga.
SHOPS:
There’s a bakery where you can buy fresh bread.
TSODILO HILLS:
27 Kilometres north of Sepopa, is the turn-off west to Tsodilo Hills, Botswana’s first World Heritage Site.
Sepopa Swamp Stop was recently renovated and while they offer fishing trips on the Okavango River in their boats, it is also possible to launch your own boat if you prefer.
