The small village of Rakops, with its nearly 6 000 inhabitants, is situated on the Boteti River, west of the Makgadikgadi Pans.
Traveller DescriptionRakops is the last stop for fuel and supplies before heading west to the Matswere Entrance Gate into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The track to the gate has deep sand in some places, so deflate your tyres. You can expect to encounter some black cotton soil during the rainy season. Only tow a trailer if you are experienced at it.

Since the Puma fuel station opened, fuel is more reliable in Rakops. However, it is good practice to always keep your tank as full as possible, so fill up in in Letlhakane or Mopipi if you can.
