Khwai Village is a small dusty town in the concession – well worth visiting if you are in the area and want to get a feel for local culture. The village is home to approximately 400 people, the majority of which are Babukahwe, more generally referred to as “river bushmen” who are in charge of running the Khwai Concession, also known as the Khwai Development Trust which can be contacted for more information. The entire concession is owned by the local community, and leased to safari camps.
