Hobhouse on the Leeu River (a Tributary to the Caledon River) is a small town 90 km south-east of Bloemfontein in the Free State province of South Africa. It was established on the farm Poortjie in 1912 and named after Emily Hobhouse who laboured throughout the Anglo-Boer war to alleviate the suffering in the concentration camps. Hobhouse became a municipality in September 1913. The farming area produces maize, wheat, cheese and livestock. There are several caves and shelters in the district where visitors can see examples of San Bushman art.
