“Rosendal is a town in the Witteberge, 32 km S/E of Senekal and 22 Km South of Paul Roux in the Eastern Freestate. It was founded in 1911, the name is of Dutch origin and means Rose Valley. The mountains around Rosendal were formed 2 million years ago with lava being deposited over the Tafelberg sandstones. The lava is up to 500m thick in places. It has become a popular tourist destination, known for spectacular scenery, including the surrounding mountains, and is home to a community of artists and small business owners. The town has a number of attractive buildings and early-20th-century homes.” - Chris Smit, 2024/05/26
