Vredefort

Vredefort is a small farming town in Free State province of South Africa. Situated on the Vredefort crater, one of the largest in the world. The town was established in 1876 on a farm called Visgat. The Vredefort crater is South Africa's seventh World Heritage Site and the main reason why a visitor to South Africa should not miss this site and visit to the town. The town is rich in flora and fauna around the Vredefort Dome. This is a unique destination to learn about culture and geological impact of the crater in the evolution of life on Earth. The economy of the town is depended on farming of sunflower and maize as well as cattle rearing, with summer months rainy and very cold winters.
