Cathcart is a very small town conveniently situated on the foot of the Windvogelberg Mountain, on the N6 highway between Stutterheim and Queenstown in Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The town was named named after Sir George Cathcart, governor of the Cape of Good Hope 1852-1853. This town is one of South African town with a typical village setting. Sheep and cattle breeding are major sources of income in this area.
There is not much tourist attractions in this town, except for the historical Methodist and Dutch reformed church building and experience farming life and activities. This town is very small and still with underdeveloped facilities such that there is still a few stores in the town center and some of the facilities can be accessed in the nearby town of Queenstown.
In Queenstown is where most residents in Cathcart travel to access a lot more facilities and services. There is no tourism office in this town, travellers can get in touch with the Cathcart municipality office for more information.
