Paul Roux is a small town about 230 km south of Johannesburg in the flatlands of Free State province of South Africa. It was founded in 1909 on the farm Wassou and named Duplessisvale and later renamed by Dutch Reform minister Paul Roux. A Boer monument is located next to the Sand River on the farm Tevrede, commemorating children that died from measles during the Great Trek. Former South African president P. W. Botha was born in 1916 the farm Telegraaf in the Paul Roux district. The town lies in an area with brilliant sandstone cliffs in the Sand River valley. Mixed farming is practiced as well as popular wood production for the safety match industry. Like most eastern Free State towns, there are numerous examples of sandstone buildings like the Dutch Reformed Church, school and private houses Dinosaur footprints left on sandstone rock can be seen on the farm, Uniondale in the district.

From Bloemfontein, take the N1 north towards Johannesburg. At Winburg (130 km) turn east onto the N5 through Senekal to Paul Roux (100km).
