Park Rynie is situated on the Umdoni Coast in KwaZulu-Natal about 55km south of Durban. It is a small village, very popular amongst holiday makers. Park Rynie, was named after Renetta 'Rynie' Hoffman, the wife of the man on whose farm the town now stands. A whaling station was built there during World War I and the breakwater built by the whaling company is known as Rocky Bay Pier. The landing ramp is still in use by fishing craft and the remains of the old whaling station still lie on Rocky Bay. Rocky Bay is a beautiful swimming beach with shark nets for safe swimming as well as excellent tidal pools.
