Ntshingwayo Dam (previously known as Chelmsford Dam) in the Ngagane River, KZN Province of South Africa, has a capacity of 195 million cubic metres. Situated 28 km south of Newcastle, Chelmsford dam was completed in 1961 and the wall raised in 1982. It was renamed Ntshingwayo in 2000 and is the third largest dam in KwaZulu-Natal. It was built to supply water to the town of Newcastle, Eskom's thermal power station and irrigation downstream. The dam has become a popular watersport venue for especially water skiing and is a particularly good carp angling venue. It is home to numerous Spur-winged Geese and Egyptian Geese. There are large herds of springbok, blesbok and red hartebeest in the Reserve at the dam. Camping is provided for tents and caravans in two camps.
