Nuwekloof Pass, and easy drive, on the Western start of the Baviaanskloof, lies in the most spectacular section of Bain's road, completed in about 1890. It has numerous sharp curves, so make sure that you keep left at all times.
In times of heavy rains this pass is often close due to the low level crossings being flooded.
From Willowmore: Turn south on the George road. 3 Kilometres outside town is the 'Baviaanskloof/ Winterhoek mountains sign. Turn left and travel on this road for ± 35 km until Nuwekloof Pass is reached.
Officially it is recommended to use a 4x4 to travel through the Baviaanskloof, but parts of it can be done with a normal car. But only 4x4 is allowed in the last part of the Baviaanskloof.
