The Nottingham Party arrived here in late July 1820, having left their homes in December 1819.They out spanned at the bottom of a small hill, gave thanks to God and later set their church atop this hill which they called Mount Mercy. The first church was completed in 1825 but was vandalized in 6th frontier war of 1836. The second was consecrated in 1837. The current church was completed in 1867 and has yellowwood floors and pews. The pulpit was brought from Grahamstown, built by a Settler and cost 25 GBP. Many Settler graves are to be found in the churchyard which is striking in its location and setting. (May-13).
