The Isandlwana battle site is the location where the British army suffered a huge loss against the indigenous army. This was the site of the first engagement in the Anglo-Zulu War on 22 January 1879. The British commander Lord Chelmsford underestimated the Zulu's. This is also the place where assegai and ox-hide shields triumphed over the most modern weaponry of the day.
