Road Marker :: Cattle Grid
Cattle grids are used instead of gates, as a means of containing livestock within the farmlands, but allowing farmers to have an open entrance to the farm. It is a fixed frame, with spaced bars over a pit. KZN is the country's third smallest province, and still roughly the size of Portugal. Its subtropical climate is home to the largest population, an estimated 9.9-million in 2006. KZN's soil fertility and comparatively good rainfall make agriculture central to the economy of the province. The farmers in the hinterland concentrate on vegetable, dairy and stock-farming, for which the cattle grids are used.
