“East London Airport (ELS) was originally named after a local farm, Collondale, in 1938 It was later renamed B J Schoeman Airport after Barend Jacobus (Ben) Schoeman (1905- 1986), former Minister of Transport. When the ongoing change of place names as 'an expensive exercise in deception' with which poorly performing authorities try to create the illusion that they are engaged in efficient management, started in late 1990, the airport was renamed King Phalo.(Whoever he may be?)” - Chris Smit, 2024/10/11
