Donkin Reserve was declared a public open space in perpetuity by Sir Rufane Donkin, and hosts a stone pyramid in memory of Donkin's late wife - Elizabeth - after whom the city was named. There is also a lighthouse dating from 1861, in which the information centre is situated. The Great Flag measures 12m x 8m, making it the largest in South Africa.
