Tidal pools exist at low tide, next to oceans, filled with seawater. John Steinbeck wrote in 'The Log from the Sea of Cortez': 'It is advisable to look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide pool again.' Gonubie Beach, flowing from the Gonubie River, has achieved Blue Flag status. Many of the tidal pools near this beach are man-made. A 500m long, raised boardwalk has been built leading to the tidal pool.
