This trail can also be started at this point. There are not many designated roads in the Transkei Coastal Conservation Area (CCA), along the 1km coastal strip area. A permit will be required to drive in those areas. Contact the DEAET (Department of Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism), Eastern Cape. They will forward you an application form to drive in this area. Note that each driver needs to complete a form. (Mar-14).

This route can be driven in either direction - from Kei River Mouth up to Port St. Johns or vice versa. Don't make fires on beaches where there are signs indicating you not to do so! Permit may not always be required, but it is definitely required when you drive on an unofficial road within a 1km coastal zone. So a permit all round would just be safer. (Feb-14).
