Nestled at the foot of the 'krans' next to the river, and boasting full amenities; the natural site is ideal for campers and caravaners. Ferndale is an active cattle, merino sheep and angora goat farm in the Henderson valley just outside of Cathcart in the Eastern Cape - it is a 4x4 paradise. Butch's passion for the area rubs off on every aspect of the trail and ensures that Ferndale will always be a top destination.

Ferndale has 4 trails, offering varying degrees of difficulty. The Scenic Circle Route, is a leisurely 18.7km scenic drive across some of the highest peaks in the Windvogelberg range. Redcone Route, a moderate 19km drive, which loops between mountain ranges and traverses a stream 13 times.

Diff-lock is recommended and Diff-lock Alley, the newest addition, is an 11.5km drive which connects on to the new 'Underberg' road. Diff-lock is essential. Butch has recently added a play pit to is arsenal of options - this one is designed specifically for experienced drivers wanting to test their skills.

There is a fully furnished, thatched river-side chalet (which sleeps 12) - with meals provided on request or stay at the campsite. Activities offered by Ferndale include: 4x4 Trails, microlight flips, camping, caravanning, game & bird viewing, fishing, horse riding, canoeing, abseiling, river tubing, mountain biking, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting, hiking with caves & bushman rock art and more.
