Right in the north of the Kwazulu-Natal province on the coast of the Indian Ocean, lies Kosi Bay. The Kosi Bay Lake forms the central part of this reserve, forming part of the larger Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park. The 11 000-hectare, 30-km-long Kosi Bay Nature Reserve surrounds the beautiful Kosi Bay lake system. This system consists of four lakes and a series of connecting channels which eventually drain into the Indian ocean. It is home to a large variety of birds and animals including hippos and crocodiles. Commercial fishing and powerboats are prohibited. Visitors can explore the waters by guided canoe, paddling past crocodiles and beautiful wetland plants. The area has stunningly beautiful indigenous forests, with the cry of African Fish Eagles providing the real 'call of Africa'.
