We have two permanent fully furnished tents which accommodate four people. Three bushbaby tents each accommodate tree people with sleeping bags and roll out mattresses for hire and five camping area for tents or caravans.
Venda traditional dance (Tshigombela) should be booked at least two weeks in advance. Catering (ZAR90 per person) food is served on buffet we serve traditional cuisine for minimum of four people and bird walks by qualified guide charged by group per hour. Please note that the campsite does not have electricity.
The lighting is solar and paraffin lanterns. There is a gel stove for cooking and basic pots and pans are provided. All Cutlery and crockery are provided. You bring only foods we provide everything except refrigerator. Linen is provided for the 2 single beds per tent. There are braai (barbeque) facilities at the tent and firewood is available to buy.
The safari tents do not have their own bathroom- hot showers and toilets are in the nearby ablution block. The nearest shop and petrol are some distance away and we do not have a shop on the property, so please make sure you have what you need with you. Remember to charge up cell phones and camera batteries before you arrive! Golwe is owned and run by members of the Vhurivhuri community.
All proceeds go towards the development of the community and supporting unemployed people who are dedicated to work in the campsite. The campsite has ablution facilities with hot water and flushing toilets, braai stands or barbecue area, picnic tables and chairs and five campsites for ZAR60 per person per night (18-Aug-11) as well as the 2 safari tents.
The area is multi-functional and can accommodate people who want to have open air meetings, picnics, camping, braai, parties and Researchers. The site is accessible to 2 wheel drive vehicles and 4x4 caravans.
There are some special birds in and around the campsite e.g. African Broadbill, Narina Trogon, Scaly Throated Eastern Nicator, Grey Waxbill and Pink Throated Twinspot. Activities include picnics, bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, 4x4 routes and also traditional dance which needs to be booked in advance. (01-Jul-13).

HOW TO GET THERE: From the south Turn off the R524 towards Thohoyandou. Drive through Thohoyandou to Sibasa and straight on Masisi road to the t-junction indicating Donald Fraser Hospital (left) and Masisi (right). Go right towards Masisi. Continue towards Masisi for another 37 km. Turn off the road towards Gunda /Lambani and follow the signboards to the site for another 1.8 km. From the north Turn off the R525 at Masisi towards the Tshikondeni mine. Do not take the left turn to the mine but continue straight on towards Sibasa/ Thohoyandou for another approximate 25km. The site is sign posted off this road to your right. From Punda Maria (Kruger National Park). From Golwe campsite to Punda Maria is 33 km. Driving towards Punda Maria, turn left at the cross road towards Mhinga and Lambani (right goes to Maphophe and Makuleke)Follow the tar road for about 3 km, turn left to cross the Levubu river (trough a gate). Carry on straight (carry on for 4 km and turn right at Lambani/ Gunda road. Follow the road (passing a sign to Dzanwe, left, after about 8 km Lambani turns off left, but carry on straight towards Gunda and Vhurivhuri for about another 10 km after which there is a sign to Golwe that turns off left. Golwe is about 23 km from R524 of which about 17 km is dirt road accessible to slow driving 2x4 vehicles. Golwe is about 33km to punda Maria gate (Kruger National Park) We are certain you will enjoy your time at Golwe-Vhurivhuri campsite.
