The First Anglo Boer War lasted for only one year till 1881, resulting in a defeat for the British. The Second Anglo Boer War ran from 1899-1902 and counts as one of the most impacting invents on Limpopo's history. After suffering defeats Kitchener employed the 'scorched earth' policy which marked the Limpopo landscape, followed by many murders of war prisoners which are still remembered. 26 000 'Boer' women and children, and 14 000 black and coloured people perished in the cruel concentration camps to which they were sent in an attempt to break the 'Boer' spirit.
