Camp Africa is situated on the fringes of indigenous forest in the Hanglip Plantation and has a beautiful view over Louis Trichardt (Makhado) and the plains below. They are approximately 7 km (by road) from the CBD of Louis Trichardt. Camp Africa has five (5) huts and many grassy camping spots. For large camping groups, there is the beautiful lawn under the trees with its own little ablution with hot water from a ‘donkey’. There are mango and avocado trees scattered around the beautiful garden with wild guava hanging over the bar. The children may also enjoy feeding the geese and goats with old bread and/or salad scraps… There is much else to see and hear… so bring the family and friends anytime for a short break from the mayhem of city life…Of interest to birders, would be the fact that Camp Africa is on the Soutpansberg-Limpopo Birding Route. Crowned Eagles; Nerina Trogan; all three (3) kinds of Loeries (Turaco) – Knysna, Purple Crested and Grey – may be seen; colorful sunbirds flash from one (1) red hot poker to the next, and many, many more.

Directions
Come in towards Louis Trichardt (Makhado) on the N1 from Polokwane (Pietersburg). As you reach Louis Trichardt (Makhado) on the N1, go straight at the first circle and the following two (2) four-way stops on the N1 in the direction of Louis Trichardt. At the second circle on the N1 – (there is a Caltex garage on the right-hand side) turn left/west towards Louis Trichardt (Makhado) central. At the SECOND stop street – (there is Mount Fuji Garage directly to the left and a Church – Dutch Reformed – to the right front) turn right into Forestry Road. Follow Forestry Road to the end of the tar road and the boom of Komatiland Forests – then follow the Camp Africa road signs. Follow the most traveled (wide) gravel road. From the start of the gravel road at the boom, it is about 2 km to a built-up area with houses, buildings, etc. Here the road turns sharply to the left at what may seem like a Y-junction in the road – there is a signboard for picnic sites – follow the signs to the left and continue straight. Follow the Camp Africa signboards. About 100 m further (at the end of all the buildings) there is a gate and a 30 km per hour speed limit road sign (there is a large round, black reservoir to the left of this gate). As a further landmark – to the left of the road there is a sheltered area with various equipment under the roof; the shelter area is usually lit at night. Drive a little more than 2 km further up the mountain on this road (the road most traveled) until you reach a house (ours) on the right hand side – all the outside lights are on at night – DO NOT TAKE THE DRIVEWAY TO THE HOUSE BUT STAY ON THE MAIN ROAD – follow the Camp Africa road signs. Just after the house is Camp Africa, follow the main road around the bend in the road to the right and enter Camp Africa – just before the small hut with the Camp Africa logo on the right-hand side.
