A pothole is also sometimes called a kettle, or as in some parts of the Western United States - a chuckhole. Most potholes occur due to the actual surface of the road suffering from fatigue, and is worsened by traffic, water and low temperatures. Also, 72% of the SA road network is reportedly more than 20 years old. Be especially careful when driving on these roads, as potholes cause damage to tyres and rims, wheel alignment and shock absorbers. Pafuri Rivercamp borders on Kruger National Park's Pafuri Gate.
