A well-liked tourist attraction in Mpumalanga these days. The area was first inhabited by the SAN people around 1500 and experienced the first white settlements in 1853 with the town being established in 1859. A portion of the town's past can be found in its historical cemetery, which now contains the tombs of both British soldiers killed in action in the region during the First and Second Boer Wars, as well as the first settlers and founders of the community.
