These are the graves of the Baragwanath family who were pioneers in the area. The story of Orlando Baragwanath is captured in TV Bulpins book 'Trail of the Copper King'. Orrie Baragwanath and his partner, Frank Lewis, prospected and pegged the copper wealth of Northern Rhodesia, Zambia, in the last part of the 19th century. In 1903 they founded The Downs and they had to build and open a road to the west from here. They followed this by building a road to Leydsdorp in the east in 1911. Their family farmed the area until 1976 when it was acquired by the Lebowa State.
