The Loskop Dam created in 1938, in the Olifants River, lies in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa about 130 km north east of Pretoria and 40 km north of Middelburg. With a capacity of 362 million cubic meters, it is the 10th largest dam in the country. The dam has a surface area of 2 350 hectares and is situated within the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve which itself encompasses 23 000 hectares of picturesque bushveld. The dam is known as a fisherman's paradise with carp, blue and red breasted bream, yellow fish, sharptooth catfish, eels, mudfish and many more other species being caught regularly.
