One of the most awe-inspiring natural landmarks in Lesotho is the magnificent Maletsunyane Falls, which plummets 200 meters in a dramatic and unique display from the Thaba Putsoa Mountains, near the charming village of Semonkong. The name "Semonkong" translates to "place of smoke" in the local language, referring to the mist and water vapour created by the force of the waterfall, which fills the air for hundreds of meters.
Located in the heart of Lesotho's Central Highlands, a rugged inland region, the falls can be reached via stunning mountain passes: the Paradise Pass and God Help Me Pass to the west, both over 2000 meters in elevation, and the Mafika-Lisiu Pass to the north, which rises to 3000 meters.
