Ongwediva is a small town very close to Oshakati in Ovamboland, in northern Namibia. Ongwediva was established in the 1960's while Namibia was under South African occupation. Its purpose was to serve as a residential area for people employed by businesses and government in Oshakati and Ondangwa. All main educational institutions in the north of Namibia were situated here and it still has a number of schools, an Educational College for teachers and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Namibia is based in Ongwediva.

(Feb-2014): Take note: Garage or Petrol cards will no longer be accepted as a legal tender for purchase of fuel, spares or repairs in Namibia.
Cash, Debit and Credit cards are legal payment instruments, but many fuel stations choose NOT to accept Debit and/or Credit cards.
Therefore you are advised to either carry cash or ensure that the filling stations you intend to use will accept your Debit or Credit card. (Feb-2014).
A traveller travelling to Namibia during May 2014, found that a credit card was accepted at garages at these places: Swakopmund, Ai-Ais, Solitaire, Sesriem and Lüderitz. It seemed to be possible to pay by credit/debit card at the major tourist towns. Take extra cash with still in case! (May-2014).
