FORMERLY A SMALL VILLAGE, Oshikango became a border post with Angola after Namibia’s independence and experienced tremendous growth. Being a border post town, this is a busy place which sees many big trucks passing through; you’ll also observe traders carrying their wares on their heads, on bicycles or even in wheelbarrows.
The town’s fortunes are linked to trade with Angola, and with that country’s economy heavily reliant on oil exports, the decline in oil prices since 2014 has had a detrimental effect on Oshikango’s fortunes. But it’s still busy!
Not a tourist town but the last place for you to replenish stocks and refuel if you’re bound for Angola. Some accommodation is available and there’s a hospital 8km out of town. Also, this is the last place to access some rudimentary vehicle repairs/maintenance before you tackle Angola’s remote areas.

Take note: Garage or Petrol cards will no longer be accepted as a legal tender for purchase of fuel, spares or repairs in Namibia.
Cash, Debit and Credit cards are legal payment instruments, but many fuel stations choose NOT to accept Debit and/or Credit cards. But generally credit cards are accepted at garages in bigger and touristy towns. Take extra cash with still in case!
HEALTHCARE:
There is a Health Centre (like a clinic) in town and a hospital 8km outside of town, south of town, on the D3608.

In town you’ll find a KFC, Spar, pharmacy, banks, ATMs and medical services.

The Tow-in service is provided by Oshikango Garage.
