Koster is a small farming town 58 km south-west of Rustenburg and 72 km west-north-west of Magaliesburg in the North-West province of South Africa. It was founded on the farm Kleinfontein in 1913 and named after either its surveyor, Dr Herman Jacob Coster (1866-1899), State Attorney of the South African Republic, or after Bastiaan Hendricus Koster, the original owner of the farm Kleinfontein. Koster lies on the watershed between the Orange and Limpopo Rivers and is a centre of maize production, although other grains, tobacco and citrus fruit are also grown in the district. (Nov-14).
