“In 1887 two Dutch farmers donated part of their land along the Schulpspruit in the upper regions of the Vaal River Basin, for a church town to be built. The Reverent Lion Cachet named the town “Amersfoort’ after the birthplace of the two donors in Holland. The town was proclaimed in 1888 The Dutch Folk-tale of Racheltjie de Beer, originated in this area.” - Chris Smit, 2024/06/15
