“Louis Trichardt
At the end of 1898, the Venda tribe was finally defeated and driven out of the Soutpansberg region. The area became open to white settlers.
A town was started on what was previously the commando's Rietvlei camp at the foot of Songozwi peak in the Soutpansberg.
It was named after Louis Trichardt, a voortrekker leader of the middle 1880’s. It was first known as Trichardtsdorp but later changed to Louis Trichardt.” -
