“Amsterdam is a small town 80 km east of Ermelo in Mpumalanga. It was part of a Scottish settlement started by Alexander McCorkindale and was proclaimed a town named Roburnial in June 1881. After the First Anglo- Boer War (1880-1881) the name was changed to Amsterdam on 5 July 1882. This was the Dutch city where the State Secretary, Eduard Bok, was born, and and showed gratitude for Dutch assistance during the war.” - Chris Smit, 2024/08/18
