The main economical industry in Thabazimbi is Iron ore mining. Nearby the town you will find the Marakele National Park which is about 20 km north-east of the town. the town made headlines in 2003 post-apartheid era as the location of Kamp Staaldraad, this was the training camp of the Springboks prior to the Rugby World Cup.
