“Zeerust lies in the beautiful Marico River Valley of the North West Province.
In 1887 gold was discovered on the farm Stinkhoutboom on the Malmani River near the present day Zeerust.
A gold rush ensued and gold was found on adjacent farms along the river. In February 1887 the farm Zeekoeivlei was declared a public goldfield.
President Paul Kruger visited the site in March 1887. Unfortunately the area started running out of gold shortly thereafter.
In 1867, Casper Coetzee died, whilst building a church on his farm. On completion. it was called Coetzee-Rust, in memory of Casper
This name was later changed to Zeerust and municipal status was obtained in 1936.” -
