Schoemansville is a suburb situated in Hartbeespoort Dam, in North West. It is the oldest suburb in town. It was named after General Hendrik Schoeman, a Boer General in the Anglo-Boer War. Schoemansville was founded by General Hendrik Schoeman who owned the farm that the Hartbeespoort Dam was built on. Hartbeespoort Dam was previously known as Schoemansville. The town has grown since and now has numerous shops, accommodation, a zoo, a snake park, restaurants, stalls and markets. This small picturesque town with its beautiful Magaliesberg mountain range has a lot to offer. (May-16)
