Road conditions report in August 2012: The MR3 is all tar from the Oshoek border to the Lomahasha Border and in good condition; The MR8 is also all tar from Manzini to the Golela Border Post and in good condition; The MR16 is also all tar from the junction near Big Bend all the way north to the MR7. It does have some sections with minor potholes but nothing to really worry about; If your plan is to cross Swaziland to get to Mozambique, then would suggest that you consider using the Mhlumeni border crossing to Goba on the MR7 (tar). It's a quieter border and open 24hrs. The state of the N2, particularly the stretch from Piet Retief to Pongola, has had road works on for quite some time, and is reported to have a good surface with 3 stop 'n go's, you can add about 30 minutes to your trip for this. (August 2012).
